What’s In The Course
The Core Skills course consists of an introductory module and five training modules. The objective is to establish the basic foundations of important behaviors including: heel, sit, and come. Most of the lessons are taught indoors and distractions are added in a controlled manner to ensure success. Check out the contents below:
Introducing Core Skills
This is where we explain how the course is laid out, how to use the lessons and videos. And what to expect in the way of results!
Training Level 1
In training level 1 the focus is on positions. This is all about how you get your dog into a sit, or onto a bed, or next to you, without pushing, pulling or using a leash! You'll find plenty of games, and lots of information to help you get fast results
Training Level 2
Training level 2 is all about duration. We show you how to get your dog to hold a position for a few seconds and how we build up duration in easy achievable stages. We'll talk about cues or commands, and introduce a sit cue.
Training Level 3
In level 3 we show you how to avoid common problems as we introduce distractions and restraint into our training games. You'll make progress on each of your core skills and introduce your dog to release cues and the heel cue.
Training Level 4
This is where your heelwork starts to really take shape, without any restraints or force your dog will be moving around at your side. More distractions are added to the sit-stay. And we also introduce some distance into our stations games at Level 4
Training Level 5
At training level 5 the important focus is on listening to you and discriminating between different cues. You'll also be combining your sit and heelwork together into a simple routine. And adding some leash work. Your dog will learn to sit patiently while you attach a collar and leash and then walk calmly at your side as you set off together.
